Aims of The Censorship and Exile Research Association

The Association’s aim is to encourage interdisciplinary work involving the humanities and the social sciences. Our purpose is to promote the dissemination of work related to censorship and/or exile studies, including work by scholars in sociology, history, film, cultural and social anthropology, cultural studies, ethnography and the various departments of languages and literatures.

The Censorship and Exile Research Association was established with a main focus on Cuban exile studies and censorship. This has been expanded to include an international scope that will disseminate work published in Spanish or English studying texts (where relevant) produced in any language.

C.E.R.A attempts to build networks to promote more studies in the area of poetics of exile across disciplines and to promote the study of censorship (with special interest on work produced against the grain, as an example of cultural resistance) worldwide.

Activities of the Censorship and Exile Research Association

In relation to its aim of encouraging research in censorship and exile studies, the Association publishes (in Spanish or English) peer-reviewed scholarly monographs of the highest academic standards and assists with publication of original scholarly work. To encourage the participation of graduate students in its professional activities (symposia, colloquia, seminars and conferences), the Association offers up to 3 conference grants per year.
